Connection to culture

e.g. Horus (if we were doing “Red Slippers”)

God of sky (is this why the characters thought the falcon was a sign of Horus?)

  • Texty Tuesday novel
  • "Two Lies" paragraph rough draft

Feb. 18-19, 2021

English: Please complete your conflict and characters sheet from Thursday, and bring to class on Monday. As well, if you haven't finished Questions 1-4 on "Two Lies," please also ensure those are complete:

1.)  Draw a table/ venn diagram to show the ways in which the memoirs are similar, and the ways in which they are different. POINT FORM?

The First Time…

Both

Two Lies

Short answers – I’m looking at the ideas – don’t worry about formal paragraph structure

2.) Quote two examples of description from the memoir, “Two Lies”.  How do they affect your understanding or how you feel about the story? How do they help the author tell their story?

3.) What is one example where the author shares her thoughts and/or feelings? Explain how that helps you understand the importance of the memory.

4.) Tip: Think for a few minutes before we start recording our answers:

What is the lesson of “Two Lies”? How do you know? Does the other memoir have a lesson? Explain your answer.

Social Studies: Congratulations on having finished your FIRST unit and first presentation! I'm so proud of you all for sharing your work in front of everyone. You all showed great courage and communication skills (and humour, with some of your scripts).

Feb. 17, 2021

 English:

PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR OUTLINE DRAFT BY THE END OF TODAY. I know this is quick, but please be assured this is just a draft. I wanted to give you more time than what we had in class. You will receive your paragraph outlines back tomorrow, for us to do our first practice analysis paragraph.

We started developing our memoirs today - the assignment sheet has been uploaded to our MS Teams in the Unit 1 folder, but it is also here (and should be in your binders):

Socials:

Please prepare your presentation at home, to be shared in class on Friday. I am looking for your presentation to outline the research (what should we know about this issue?), as well as your solution pitch (what are the steps, what might some obstacles/cons be, how will we address them). On Friday, I will collect your pink booklets, the blue brainstorming sheet, and a copy of your presentation material (PPTs can be sent via email. posters can be left in the class).

Bibliographies: If you want to view the lesson again, the link is here: https://sd38.zoom.us/rec/play/hwetFIkQx5PL1f5relFPWHWKl9J7N6gf0Dp4SQXoOpYWM0LUpGR77RheBGgdy5-yxN3lBG2LM63zZmbr.7sF3qqbFeUiZJnEM?continueMode=true

Please email me for the password (this video is password-protected).

Here's hoping I don't make you feel this way in our class!

 Hello, Grade 8's!

For homework today, please continue to think about your how-to. We will be teaching our special skill (be it folding a paper crane or reciting the Pizza Hut commercial) to a small group of peers next class. No need to worry - this is a low-stakes, casual environment. There's no skill that's more special than others.
