The ads we studied in class can be found here.
Please have your outlines prepared in point form (no full paragraphs) ready for Monday.
In a structured paragraph (not essay), please evaluate your advertisement of choice for effectiveness. You may consider creativity, complexity, and meaning. To provide further assistance, you may consider using some of the prompts below. Choose the prompts that best suit your ad, and/or that best inform your evaluation of the ad.
What is the general mood/atmosphere of the advertisement? How does it do this?
What is the relationship between images and text? What does this tell us?
What is the use of space in the advertisement? Is there a lot of 'white space" or is it full of graphic and written elements?
What signs and symbols do we find? What role do they play in the ad's impact?
If there are figures (men, women, children, animals), what are they like? What can be said about their expressions, poses, hairstyle, age, occupation, interactions, etc.?
What does the background tell us? Where is the advertisement taking place and what significance does this background have?
What typefaces are used and what impressions do they convey?
What about aesthetic decisions? What kind of a shot is it? What about the lighting, use of color, angle of the shot? Explain the significance/ purpose.
e.g. Lego uses colouring and lighting to create a playfully simplistic advertisement for its product, in which the ad itself replicates the process of playing with the Lego.
Focus: aesthetic decision, creativity, hidden complexity…
Today we will outline our responses. You will demonstrate your preparation and thought to the prompt in-class on Nov. 25 (Monday). [1]
This is an in-class assignment where outlines may be prepared at home: to protect the integrity of this assessment, your outlines MUSTbe in point form; if completed papers are brought to class as an “outline,” they must be surrendered at the time of writing. You will be assessed on Criterion A (Analysis) and B (Organization).

In preparation for your Personal Project, we are combining interview skills with project planning! For this sponsor check-in, you have 3-5 minutes to present YOUR amazing idea to the Shark Tank panel (which, in this case, is your sponsor teacher). This is your time to dazzle and amaze.

1. An introduction to/overview of your product/outcome
o Why you chose it – why it is important to you – why you are passionate about it?
o Basically – why is this product or outcome a worthwhile venture?
o What exactly is the goal (what do you hope to accomplish)?
o How exactly is your product/outcome related to both your goal and the global context?
2. A description of how you plan to measure the success of your product/outcome
o What criteria have you developed that need to be met in order for your product/outcome to be successful – and why is this criteria necessary?
o How will that criteria be measured?
3. A description of the research that you have conducted
o What information have you discovered through your research?
o Can you quote some information? – ie. Leading researcher, Bob Smith, states that…”
4. A conclusion
