June 24 & 25, 2021

Dear L&L 10's of Quarter 4:

Thank you all for the dedication you have put into this course. You've done so well- given this was now your fourth intensive quarter. I'm including your parents/ guardians in this email so they know, as well, to be very proud of you.

You have all been so hardworking and thoughtful, even on days where you are tired from just doing a paragraph write, when the classroom was too hot, when the daily home-study work seemed to go on for forever. And you never complained (publicly). You got things in on time. I cannot tell you how highly I regard your work ethic, your resilience, and your integrity as learners. I don't think we talked that much about the last point there, but even if something required a bit more time, you ensured that you got the job done. Left no stone unturned, even if it slipped form your grip the first time.

Thank you for sticking through to the end. Please give yourself a break this summer, making time for the activities that make you feel refreshed and present.

Best of luck in the fall, as well. Room 207 is here when you need.

Take care,

Ms. Minato

June 10/ 11, 2021

 New Media 10:

Required - please complete your Film Guide booklet for Criterion A.

Optional - you received a tentative marks update today. if you would like to build on your C and D, you may use your Big Ideas (during viewing) chart and choose one of the following activities:

respond to one of your big ideas in the form of a creative poem (about this big idea topic), a THUG-inspired short story (be descriptive: show > tell), or a one-pager (like a more visual mind-map, illustrate one theme statement about your big idea, and use pictures to show how this meaning is delivered).

Lit 10:

Thank you for submitting your short stories. Excited to read them! Please take this weekend and your homestudy day to complete your essay, to be submitted to Teams next class.

I will be holding weekend Zoom office hours from 2:00 - 4:00 on SATURDAY if you need further support in completing your essay. Zoom link is the same as our daily office hours one.

June 8/ 9, 2021

 NM10:

Please complete Part B of your Hate U Give film guide. We will do Part A in class, after we finish our viewing:

Choose an article to read and complete the table provided in class.

Let's make connections between the fictional film The Hate U Give and the world we live in today. There is room to discuss minority groups in Canada, gang membership in general, police brutality in the States, and/or even unpacking Capitol Hill. You may pick the direction you want to focus on. If the current news is a bit overwhelming or tiring, perhaps something like "Into the Abyss" might be of interest - it presents more as a chapter in a sociology textbook, but this distance might be more comfortable reading (though the material is slightly challenging).

Options for Exploration (or choose your own article):

I've indicated the publisher where relevant instead of the author, based on our previous conversations on left/right/middle-wing source material.

Lit 10: We completed our essay outlines in class. At home, please add the finishing touches to your Science Fiction stories, for submission next class. Excited to read them!

Lit 10:

I will return your thesis draft next class, when we will focus on the outline for our paragraph. On Tuesday, we'll also allow a bit of time for a CRWR check-in (whether that be peer editing and revising, or drafting your good copy). We will end Tuesday's class by preparing for our Merchant of Venice final unit.
